I'm not even a professional dancer but I can so relate to this blog. <3

Hahaha I’ve only danced for a year and I relate to this blog. You don’t need to be a pro to relate to dance :)

Another good yoga move for back flexibility is bow. I like to hold bow for a while before doing acro or anything with back bends.

Thank you! :)

Hi! I love your blog very much! (: I have a question about gaining flexibility. How can you gain flexibility in your back? That is the place in my body where I'm the least flexible at and it's holding me back from doing stuff.

Yoga has made my back much more flexible! Try doing cobra, downward dog, cat stretch, bridge, and wheel!

Hey I've been dancing for nearly 13 years now, and my flexability still is not where it should be. I just got my splits and I was wondering how could I work on flexability, my teacher told me a split everyday should suffice, but that doesn't even have an affect. Could you give me some flexability tips?

If you scroll down I just answered this. :) Stretch everyyyy day and hold it and breaaathe.

hi, i am taking ballet, tap, and jazz right now, and i really want to take point, but my teacher is specific about who she asks to take the class, and one of the things she looks for is strong ankles. do you (or anyone, if you post this) know any exercises i could do that would help me strengthen my ankles? any other suggestions that might help me get noticed? im hoping she'll ask me next year. i would teach myself, but that is super dangerous, so i don't want to chance getting hurt. thanks :)

Make sure to use the floor as resistance when doing tendus, push down with doing releves, and pull up when going down. Use your body and the ground as resistance to strengthen yourself. Also try getting a theraband and doing resistance training with those for your feet and ankles!

And talk to your teacher, most importantly. Tell her its your goal to eventually do pointe, and ask her for what she recommends for you to reach that goal. :)

Hey, i was just wondering if you have any tips on how to become more flexible, I have done hip-hop and lyrical for about 5 years now and have just started a more intense jazz/contemporary/ballet class and i want to become more flexible to be able to complete more of the poses and stretches to the best i cant. Any tips?

Stretch everyday, twice a day if you can, and hold stretches for at least 30 seconds! And BREATHE!

hi! So I am super flexible and I stretch probably at least 5 times a week, and after I stretch I'm never sore, should I be worried? because I can go into my splits after stretching everything else, like I can feel the stretch, I just don't feel sore later, is it because I stretch all the time? thanks so much! p.s. loooove your blog!

Nah, it’s no problem! As long as you feel the stretch and are getting more flexible then soreness doesn’t really matter. But try maybe switching up your stretches and holding them for longer!

I love your blog and Ive been dancing for 13 years. However, recently I've begun competitive cheerleading as well. I just want to say that cheerleading is just as hard as dance, and I'm bias toward dance. Dancers and cheerleaders are both underestimated, I just want them to not hate each other.

People don't stop dancing when they go to college because they don't love it enough. Once you fall in love with dance, you never stop being a dancer. I'm in my freshman year of college for architecture & it's the first time not dancing everyday for eleven years. I try my best to go to dance, even if it is just me. It doesn't matter if you study it as your major, make it your career, or just do it when you can, you dance for you, and it will always be a part of who you are.

I never said that they quit because they don’t love it at all. You completely put words in my mouth. I put my reasoning for not quitting, and it’s because I love it so much. Because of that I’m choosing to work less and take less units for fall semester. College is a ton of work so most people can’t dance and do school unless their school offers it.

will you promote us? we're an independent Serbian, Macedonian, and Greek singing and dancing folklore ensemble from Chicago, made up of young adults, mostly in college, and this is what we love :] dukatichicago(.)tumblr(.)com

Check them out!

I keep seeing people saying that they quit dance for college. I only just started ballet this year and I'm going off to college in the fall. Is it hard to balance college and dance? I really want to continue dance in college.

The only reason I had to is because freshman aren’t allowed cars, so I had no way of getting to a studio. Next fall however, I was definitely be juggling classes, homework, my job, and ballet. I love it too much to quit. :)
