dare-to-dance asked: I'm 16 and I quit dance when i was 8, i restarted at 13, I really suck, i can't even consider myself as a true "dancer" I've never had a solo, never been in a competition, I only preform at our schools show and I'm always in the back. I feel like by the time I actually become good it's gonna be too late. All my friends say i'm great but they don't dance, they just think that if you look good, you're good, i have no technique at all and i have no flexibility, any advice? this really upsets me :(

Answer:

Honestly, trying to be the best isn’t what dancing is about, especially if you’re not even trying to be a pro. I picked up ballet again when I was 17. needless to say, I’m pretty horrible, but I still work at it everyday. I stretch hard, work out hard, and practice hard. But I do it because I love it. I wouldn’t want to work this hard if I didn’t love ballet. Dancing is about doing it because you love it, not because you want to be the best. I guarantee that if you go to class every time with a smile on your face, eager to learn and give 100%, then you’ll start growing stronger and stronger. :)
